LOS ANGELES, Oct. 23, 2009 — Tennis Channel, the only 24-hour, television-based multimedia destination dedicated to both the professional sport and tennis lifestyle, today introduced sports and entertainment personality Mayleen Ramey as the new host of original tennis-travel series, Destination Tennis. Ramey’s first destination, San Diego, and the tennis-friendly places viewers can visit when touring the Southern California city, will appear on the network Monday, Oct. 26, at 7:30 p.m. ET. Destination Tennis: San Diego will continue to air on the channel in the weeks following its premiere, a schedule of which can be found on tennischannel.com.
“I am ecstatic to host Destination Tennis and join Tennis Channel’s family,” said Ramey. “We’ve already had an amazing time exploring San Diego’s unique attractions, culture and tennis community. I can’t wait to share our upcoming adventures with viewers and help them plan unforgettable tennis vacations.”
As host of Destination Tennis, Ramey will take viewers on tennis vacations around the United States and abroad, visiting top resorts and tennis facilities, and unearthing the people, cultures and histories of the regions she encounters. Her interviews with local coaches and guides will showcase the unique attractions that allow tennis fans to get the most out of their next vacations, both on and off the court. In Destination Tennis: San Diego, Ramey plays tennis at both the Rancho Valencia Spa and Resort and La Jolla Beach Tennis Club and goes sailing in San Diego Bay on the America’s Cup ship “Stars and Stripes.” She also visits the USS Midway aircraft carrier, makes tortillas in Old Town, samples the waters both by kayak and Jet Ski, enjoys the city’s Gaslight District nightlife, and tours the internationally known San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park. Upcoming episodes will take Ramey to Scottsdale, Ariz.; Newport, R.I.; Vancouver, Canada; and Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Ramey has appeared as a television host on numerous networks, including ESPN2, CSTV, MTV, E!, TV Guide, G4, AZN Television and AXN. In addition to her sports and entertainment broadcasting duties, she writes a dating and relationship advice column.
Tennis Channel’s Destination Tennis premiered in February 2006 and since then has shown viewers how to take tennis-themed vacations and sample the local flavor in major metropolitan areas, tidy getaways and exotic locales all over the world. U.S.-based episodes include: Atlanta, Las Vegas, Miami, New York City and a statewide visit to Colorado. This is in addition to out-of-the way retreats to Carmel, Calif.; Charleston, S.C.; Palm Springs, Calif.; Sea Island, Ga.; and New Hampshire’s Balsam Grand Resort. Internationally, Destination Tennis viewers have toured Australia, Austria, Spain, Switzerland and Thailand, along with Montreal and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Prior to Ramey, Mieke Buchan had hosted the series since its debut.
