USTA Hosting Registration Events
February 25, 2010
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — The USTA announced today that more than 700 tennis facilities, recreation departments and community centers across the U.S. will host national youth registration events for all spring and summer tennis programs from Friday, February 26 to Monday, March 1. The events are part of the “Tennis Night in America” celebration.
Facilities hosting youth registration nights give families the opportunity to register children for spring and summer programs, get involved by volunteering to become a parent coach, and learn about tennis. Events can be any organized celebration of tennis that includes registration and promotion of future junior tennis opportunities, and can include pizza parties, exhibitions, clinics, QuickStart Tennis exhibitions, or be as simple as a registration table.
To ensure continued success, the USTA is again partnering with Community Tennis Associations, parks, clubs and other organizations to help promote and host youth registration events.
“Tennis Night in America” is anchored by the “BNP Paribas Showdown for the Billie Jean King Cup” live from Madison Square Garden on Monday, March 1. Participants qualify by winning Grand Slam events and this year’s field includes: seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams, who was runner-up to Serena at the 2009 Billie Jean King Cup, US Open champion Kim Clijsters, French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova and former French Open Champion, Ana Ivanovic.
The USTA will also be launching a Tennis Night Sweepstakes in conjunction with this weekend’s youth registration activities. Starting on Thursday, February 25th at 9:00am ET through Monday, March 1st at 3:00pm ET anyone can register at tennisnight.com to enter to win a trip for four to the 2010 US Open in New York City.
