Querrey to Play Atlanta tournament

May 4, 2011

ATLANTA — World No. 18 Sam Querrey has committed to play the Atlanta Tennis Championships, an ATP World Tour 250 event that will open the Olympus US Open Series at the Racquet Club of the South, July 18-24, Tournament Director Bob Bryant announced today.

Querrey had a career year in 2010 capturing four titles on three different surfaces at Los Angeles, Memphis, London (Queen’s Club) and Belgrade. The hard-serving Californian’s best result this year includes reaching the quarterfinals at Memphis.

Querrey will be making his first trip to the Atlanta Tennis Championships, joining two other Americans already committed to the tournament who faced off in the final last year. World No. 11 Mardy Fish defeated World No. 33 and former University of Georgia All-American John Isner in three sets in last year’s dramatic final.

“I’m really looking forward to coming to Atlanta for the first time,” Querrey said. “I know many of the players enjoyed the tournament and I’ve only heard good things about it. I’m sure it will be an even better tournament in its second year.”

Bryant added, “We are extremely pleased to bring Sam to Atlanta. He is one of America’s best players and he will definitely be a fan favorite. Sam won four ATP World Tour titles last year and has positioned himself as the third highest ranked American, currently 18th in the world. Last summer Sam won at Queen’s Club and made it to the fourth round at Wimbledon. This is truly an exciting addition to our player field.”

Querrey’s career high ranking is World No. 17 and he’s earned more than $3.1 million in prize money. In 2008, Querrey made a splash at Dolphins Stadium when he hit two batting practice home runs before a Florida Marlins game.

Weeklong ticket packages, which include tickets to all 11 sessions of the Atlanta Tennis Championships, are now on sale. Packages include Champion Courtside seats, which are the only packages that offer tickets located in the front row of the stadium. Along with their unparalleled proximity to the court, Champion Courtside seat holders gain exclusive access to the private indoor, air-conditioned Champion’s Club. Additionally, each ticket holder will receive a tournament program, along with recognition in the program. Individual session tickets will be available for Champion Courtside, Platinum and Gold seats, along with Reserved Stadium seats on June 1.
