AN ANTONIO — Thanks to the support of more than 1,400 H-E-B vendors and suppliers participating in the 2011 H-E-B Tournament of Champions, this year’s event has raised more than $5.3 million to benefit 200 Texas non-profit organizations.
“This year’s Tournament of Champions is off to a fantastic start, thanks to the strong support of our suppliers and vendors”
An annual tradition since 1986, The H-E-B Tournament of Champions is one of the largest charitable events of its kind in the nation and is an integral part of H-E-B’s annual charitable giving. The 2011 tournament runs June 6 through June 8 and includes a series of golf and tennis events as well as volunteer service projects.
The H-E-B Tournament of Champions was created to provide an opportunity for H-E-B’s suppliers and vendors to partner with the company to support non-profit organizations focused on youth, children and education. Since its inception, the H-E-B Tournament of Champions has raised a total of over $52.3 million for over 600 Texas non-profits.
This year’s Tournament participants are demonstrating their commitment to building community by volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House and Habitat for Humanity. At the Ronald McDonald House, over 300 volunteers will landscape, paint and install playground equipment. At Habitat for Humanity, a second group of more than 160 volunteers will landscape and perform exterior work on seven homes including one home known as the H-E-B Tournament of Champions Habitat Home. H-E-B Tournament of Champions donated $60,000 to Habitat for Humanity to fund the building of the home.
“This year’s Tournament of Champions is off to a fantastic start, thanks to the strong support of our suppliers and vendors,” said Winell Herron, Group Vice President of Public Affairs, Diversity and Environmental Affairs. “The funds raised by the Tournament will enable H-E-B to support children’s organizations in Texas that are making a positive impact in the community.”
