Plaza Tennis Center to host Regional Playoff

NEW YORK, NY — The Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City, Missouri, plays host to the 2013 National Family Tennis Championships Super Regional Playoffs on July 26-28 as family tennis teams, from nine different states and with players ranging in age from 9-61, take the court.
Winners in each of the five divisions of play earn a trip to New York City for the right to play for a national title from August 22-26, 2013. Teams will receive travel, hotel accommodations as well as tickets to see the best in the game play at the USTA/Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The two other Super Regional Playoffs are scheduled for August 3-4 at: The Copeland-Cox Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama and The Tennis Center at College Park in Maryland.
Located on the historic Country Club Plaza in the heart of Kansas City, The Plaza Tennis Center offers 14 outdoor hard courts and is home to the Kansas City United Tennis Junior Academy and the UMKC Roos Tennis. The public facility is walking distance from more than a half-dozen hotels, more than 150 shops and dozens of fine restaurants in Kansas City’s premier retail, dining and entertainment destinations.
“We are excited to be a part of the National Family Tennis Championships, first by hosting a local tournament for the members of our community and then welcoming the top family teams from across the Midwest to our courts for the chance to qualify for the nationals,” said Scott Hanover, Director of Tennis at the Plaza Tennis Center. “As a public facility our members love family tournaments and we’re excited to have added this one to our schedule.”
Host sites conducted local tournaments from April through June 30, for up to six divisions of play including; Husband/Wife, Brother/Sister, Father/Son, Father/Daughter, Mother/Son and Mother/Daughter. Players of all levels competed in the same division with the only limitations being a son or daughter must be under the age of 18 and a father or mother is required to be the minor’s legal guardian.
Each local host site received a free tournament kit with everything they needed to promote and run the event including; counter cards, promotional posters, NFTC banners, player premiums, tennis balls, plus winner and runner-up awards for each division and the chance for their winners to advance to one of four Super Regional Playoffs.
