Women’s RB dominated by HEAD Penn
March 15, 2016
Warren, NJ & Sarasota, FL- The winners podium at the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour’s stop in New Jersey earlier this month was loaded with players from Team HEAD Penn. Paola Longoria, the No. 1 ranked player in the world, did what she has done all season on the LPRT en route to her eighth Professional Singles title this season. Longoria (Monterrey, Mexico) also captured the Professional Doubles title in Warren, NJ—her seventh LPRT doubles win of the season.
The all HEAD Penn team of Aimee Ruiz (Whitehouse Station, NJ) and Maria Jose Vargas (Buenos Aires, Argentina) paired up to reach the finals of the Professional Doubles division where they fell to Longoria and her partner. Vargas also reached the semifinals of the Professional Singles division.
Paola’s singles title is the 68th of her professional career. She last lost a singles match on the LPRT at the 2015 New Jersey event, now pushing her undefeated streak on tour to more than a year.
Down south in Florida, two of HEAD Penn’s rising junior stars continued their winning ways. A week after both making finals appearances at the USA Racquetball High School Nationals event in Portland, OR, Jordan Cooperrider (Palm Harbor, FL) and Kevin Vasquez (Miami, FL) took home honors at the Florida State Singles Championships. Cooperrider, the newly minted High School Girl’s Singles Champion, won the adult Women’s Open Singles division back in her home state.
Vasquez, the High School Boy’s Singles runner-up, reached the semifinals in Florida’s adult Men’s Open Singles division. Vasquez fell to the eventual champion and fellow Team HEAD Penn player Alejandro Herrera (Cali, Colombia). Joe Linnell (Pembroke Pines, FL), another member of the HEAD Penn team also reached the semifinals.
Cooperrider and Vasquez were honored at the Florida event by being named the respective Female and Male Junior Players of the Year in the Gator State. To follow all of the Team HEAD Penn players, visit facebook.com/headpennracquetball.
