Manhattanville College partners with USTA
April 25, 2017
Purchase NY — Manhattanville College announced today that it has formed a new partnership with the United States Tennis Association (USTA) that will bring a Professional Tennis Management (PTM) degree program to the college in the spring of 2018.
Manhattanville becomes one of only seven NCAA institutions to offer the PTM program, which will prepare graduates to become tennis teaching professionals, club managers, directors of tennis, and other positions associated with the industry.
“We are thrilled to partner with the United States Tennis Association,” stated Nikhil Kumar, vice president, Undergraduate Enrollment Management at the college. “The PTM degree, as part of our Sports Studies curriculum, further positions Manhattanville as a leader in sports education, and it gives students a plethora of internship and job opportunities in the sports industry.”
“It is important to create opportunities and support the development of students aspiring to work in the tennis industry,” said Scott Schultz, Managing Director, USTA-U. “We are extremely proud to partner with Manhattanville College by providing the skills and experience needed for students to succeed as leaders in the sport.”
The PTM program, some of which will be presented online, offers students on-court playing and coaching development, a bachelor’s degree in sport studies, paid internships, work-force credentials, a USTA certificate, tennis industry networking, and job placement.
With a number of country clubs in Westchester and Fairfield counties, there is a rich reserve of opportunities for students and graduates.
Manhattanville, which previously sponsored both men’s and women’s tennis until 2012, recently announced that it will again, beginning in the 2018-19 season, add varsity tennis programs, increasing the number of varsity sports at the school to 22, the most sports sponsored by the college at one time in school history.
