WESTBOROUGH, MA – USTA New England is excited to announce a new partnership with the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) to increase the number of tennis coaches in New England and promote a safe and respectful environment for coaches and athletes to thrive on the court.

“Tennis professionals are at the core of who we are and of our mission to promote and develop the growth of tennis. And with the boom in tennis in New England, this partnership is more important than ever. We’re excited to formally join forces to help grow the pipeline of coaches and expand the development opportunities for current and prospective coaches. Additionally, we are both committed to making our coaching ecosystems more reflective of the communities we serve,” said Lindsey Keeler, Executive Director and CEO of USTA New England.

The partnership comes in the wake of a recent study that projects the nation will see a significant decrease in tennis coaches over the next five years. The two organizations will work together to actively recruit and retain coaches as well as provide training and educational opportunities.

“PTR is thrilled to be partnering with USTA New England to increase the number of tennis coaches and provide excellent coach education,” said Dan Santorum, President and CEO of PTR. “The staff and volunteer leadership at USTA New England are pioneering people whom we look forward to working with to help grow the game of tennis.”

For the last year, USTANE and PTR have collaborated on a unique offering for community coaches in the section’s Tennis in the Parks program. PTR offers $200 scholarships towards a Level 1 coaching certification which knocks the price down more than 50% for coaches looking to take their skills to the next level.

As part of the new two-year agreement, USTA New England and the PTR will also collaborate to embrace and advance diversity, equity and inclusion among coaches, including Women in Tennis initiatives and diverse coach scholarships.
