NEW HAVEN — Dunlop star James Blake defeated his close friend Mardy Fish in the Pilot Pen Tennis men’s finals last night at the Connecticut Tennis Center. Blake won the championship match 7-5, 6-4 over his Florida neighbor to take his second Pilot Pen title in three years.
The All-American final was played before an excited crowd, with Blake cheered on by his devoted group of friends and fans known as the J-Block. Wielding his Dunlop Aerogel 2HUNDRED, Blake won a hard fought first set before settling down to control the second. The victory is the 27-year-old’s 10th ATP career singles title.
“Dunlop congratulates James on playing such amazing tennis as he moves on to the US Open,” said Kai Nitsche, Dunlop’s General Manager of Racquet Sports. “His game has been extraordinary over the past month. And when he plays with confidence, great things happen.”
“I couldn’t be more excited,” said Blake, who is seeded #6 at the Open which begins tomorrow. “I feel like I’m playing great.”
Including Blake, Dunlop has 4 players seeded in the top 10 at the US Open and ranked in the ATP top 10 worldwide, more than any other brand — James Blake (6th) Tommy Robredo (8th), Tomas Berdych (9th), and Tommy Haas (10th), all of them playing with the Dunlop Aerogel racquet.
