June 15, 2009
Austria – Kennelbach — It was a match for the history books Sunday at the AEGON Championship at the Queen’s Club in London. World No. 3 Andy Murray ended the 71-year British title drought defeating six-seed James Blake 7-5, 6-4 in front of his home crowd. This is Murray’s first grass court title.
“I’m playing some of the best tennis of my life,” said Murray. “This is a great win to have leading up to Wimbledon. I’m going to continue playing my game and just take one match at a time.”
Murray, who plays with a MicroGel™ Radical MP, did not drop one single set on the way to the final.
In the doubles competition, HEAD pros Wesley Moodie and Mikhail Youzhny claimed the title against the Brazilian duo Marcelo Melo / Andre Sa in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 10-8.
Neo HEAD player Tommy Haas, who recently joined the HEAD Team, conquered the title at the Gerry Weber Open in Halle in front of his home crowd in three sets 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-1 against fellow HEAD pro Novak Djokovic.
