Wilson players Tursunov and Dancevic carve up the competition in Eastbourne

June 22, 2009

In an all Wilson singles final, Dmitry Tursunov used his [K]Blade Tour to defeat [K]Blade 98 player Frank Dancevic 63 76 to take home his 6th career ATP Tour singles title and 1st Eastbourne AEGON International Singles title.

“I have won 5 out of my 6 singles titles with myWilson sticks,” said Dmitry. “My [K]Blade helped me slice up the competition this week and get me prepared for Wimby,” stated the always quotable, Tursunov.

It was the second time Dmitry Tursunov and Frank Dancevic had met in an ATP World Tour final, with Tursunov also defeating Dancevic in straight sets in the Indianapolis final in 2007.

“It’s ironic that I’ve lost to him in my only two ATP World Tour finals so far,” Dancevic said. “I went out with the mentality to just go for all my shots today and it didn’t pan out for me today. But if you had told me at the start of the week that I would have had five or six matches, then I would have taken it for sure. I think Dmitry played a great match and earned the win.”

“Frank and Dmitry are two of the great personalities on the ATP Tour,” said Massimo Calvelli, Wilson Global Tour Director. “It’s great to see two of our Wilson Tour Team players start to peak and play some of their best tennis leading into Wimbledon.”

The 26-year-old Tursunov clinched his sixth ATP World Tour title at AEGON International Championships and clinched his first title on grass courts.

“Whether it’s winning Wimbledon, Eastbourne, a Challenger, a Futures event, or beating your grandmother in checkers, winning is always better than losing, so it’s great to get through the week like this,” said Tursunov.
