4 Titles Up for Grabs, 4 Wilson Tour Team Wins

August 10, 2009

There were 4 titles up for grabs this past week and Juan Martin Del Potro, Flavia Pennetta, Robert Lindstedt and Yan Zi all snatched titles for the Wilson Tour Team.

Juan Martin Del Potro did not disappoint in Washington D.C. as he used his [K]Six-One 95 racket to defeat Roddick 3-6, 7-5, 7-6(6) and successfully defend his Legg Mason Tennis Classic title. Del Potro is the first back-to-back champion in Washington D.C. since Agassi won consecutive titles in 1998-’99. This win also marked Juan Martin’s sixth ATP World Tour title as he improved to a 38-10 for the season.

“It feels great to win the third title of the season with Martin. We now have 46 titles combined!” World No. 23-ranked Lindstedt exclaimed.

In women’s action, using her [K]Blade 98, Flavia Pennetta won her eighth and biggest title of her WTA Tour career as she defeated Stosur 6-4, 6-3 to take the Premier Level- LA Women’s Tennis Championships Singles title.

Pennetta pulled off two Top 10 upsets with back-to-back wins over Petrova and Zvonareva, then went onto defeat Sharapova in the semifinals.

“I think my serve was very good all week. It helped me a lot in the important points,” said Pennetta, who lost her serve just once in the final. “When I was aggressive I won the points today and that was a big step for me to improve my overall game.”

Pennetta’s now 8-9 lifetime in Tour singles finals and is currently on an 11-match win streak after title wins in Palermo and LA.

“This is my 16th doubles title but first one in a long time, so I’m very happy to win another title,” said Yan, who hadn’t won one since taking Strasbourg last spring. “We had a lot of close matches this week. Every match went to a tie-break, so it was very good experience for us.”

“There were only 2 tournaments and 4 titles for the Tour Team to possibly capture and to have one Wilson player in each title triumph is awesome,” said Adam Schaechterle Wilson Tour Manager for the Americas. “To prevail in every draw shows the strength of the Wilson team and we are very proud of Juan Martin, Flavia, Robert, and Yan.”

This week the ATP Tour stops in Montreal and WTA Tour is in Cincinnati.
