McCollom Wins USPTA Women’s Championship

MARCO ISLAND, FLA. — Marina McCollom of West Des Moines, Iowa is the women’s open division winner of the $30,000 USPTA International Championships, which were played Wednesday at the Eagle Creek Tennis Center on Marco Island, Fla. McCollom earned the championship title by defeating Ionoa Paun from Florida, 6-2, 7-5.
The men’s championship match will be played Thursday between Cory Ross of Littleton, Colo., and James Daly of Tyler, Texas. The championships are being played as part of the USPTA’s World Conference on Tennis. The conference is scheduled Sept. 21-26 at the Marco Island Marriott Resort, Golf Club and Spa on Marco Island, Fla. It includes the international championships, 45 seminars and courses, a buying show, awards presentation, silent auction of tennis and sports memorabilia and more. It is attended by more than 1,000 tennis-teaching professionals, industry leaders, manufacturers and media.
