Live Coverage of the 2010 Hopman Cup

December 30, 2009

LOS ANGELES — Tennis Channel, the only 24-hour, television-based multimedia destination dedicated to both the professional sport and tennis lifestyle, will exclusively bring live competition from the 2010 Hyundai Hopman Cup to U.S. viewers.

The annual mixed team competition is the only international tournament of its kind and has showcased unprecedented combinations of the world’s top players in its mixed (teams of one man, one woman) doubles format. Tennis Channel will carry live tournament coverage from the permanent home of The Hopman Cup, the Burswood Dome in Perth, Australia.

With the most championships than any other country since its inception in December of 1988, the U.S. will be represented by rising stars Melanie Oudin and John Isner, who both made waves at the 2009 US Open. Seventeen-year-old Oudin gave the American fans their most exhilarating moments in the early rounds of the US Open by clipping 4th seeded Elena Dementieva 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 in the 2nd round, then followed it up with another epic upset over Maria Sharapova in the third round. The teen took out her third Russian in a row, Nadia Petrova, in the fourth round before losing to eventual finalist, Caroline Wozniacki, in the quarterfinals. Isner, who is ranked No. 55 and stands at 6-foot-9, also leaped into the spotlight at Flushing Meadows in 2009 when he stunned 2003 US Open Champion Andy Roddick in five gripping sets in the third round before bowing out to top ten player, Fernando Verdasco, in the fourth round.
