Non-Profits Partner on Tennis Tournament

Tampa, Florida — The Hillsborough County Tennis Association and HARC (Hillsborough Achievement and Resource Centers) are working together on a new tennis fundraiser that will take place in Tampa on Saturday and Sunday, May 15-16, 2010.
HCTA President, Marisol Casablanca, expects hundreds of tennis players from the greater Tampa area to be playing doubles matches at Hunter’s Green Country Club and the Hillsborough Community College tennis complex. Net proceeds will be shared, between these 501(c) (3) organizations, based in Tampa, to help fund HCTA tennis scholarships for underprivileged children and help adults with intellectual and other disabilities “Build Everyday Lives.”
This event will begin with a pre-tournament party Friday night, May 14th at Hunter’s Green in New Tampa. Live music, a silent auction and a cocktail reception with heavy hors d’oerves will be featured that evening. First round matches for both men and women will take place Saturday on clay courts at the two Tampa area clubs noted above. Final matches for men and women will take place Sunday, May 16th at Hunter’s Green.
The Hillsborough County Tennis Association (www.tampatennis.org) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that was founded in 2007. The mission is to promote and develop tennis, locally. The HCTA, which has grown to almost 300 members, works closely with the United States Tennis Association and USTA Florida. In addition to charity tournaments, the HCTA operated its initial USTA Junior Team Tennis League for children earlier this year. HCTA also organizes workshops for tennis teaching pros and tennis enthusiasts, hosts tennis social events, runs yearly USTA Rookie, Social Tennis Events, Tournaments and a Block Party event in Hillsborough County.
HARC (Hillsborough Achievement and Resource Centers formerly known as Hillsborough Association for Retarded Citizens) is a 501 (c) (3) charity that was founded in 1953. HARC provides a variety of programs and services including residential, day programs, vocational training and van transportation to 400 adults with developmental disabilities (i.e. Down syndrome, Autism, Spina Bifida, and Alzheimer’s) throughout Hillsborough County. Since November 2007 HARC has incurred over $450,000.00 in funding cuts through Florida’s Medicaid Waiver program. Net proceeds from this fundraiser will help keep their fleet of 35 vans operating and providing desperately needed transportation services, daily, to over 300 adults with disabilities.
