Top U.S. Juniors to Compete at Roland Garros

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — The USTA announced today the nine boys and nine girls who have been accepted into the main draw and the qualifying draw at the 2010 Roland Garros Junior Championships. The main draw will be played May 30-June 6 at Roland Garros in Paris; qualifying will be played in Montrouge, France, May 27-28.
The following juniors have been accepted into the junior draws and will represent the United States:

Kudla, 17, is the reigning Eddie Herr singles champion and also won the ITF Grade A Casablanca Cup in December. Currently No. 6 in the ITF World Junior Rankings, Kudla recently reached the semifinals on clay at the USTA Pro Circuit $10,000 Futures in Vero Beach, Fla. Capra, 18, is the top-ranked American entered in the girls’ draw at No. 10 in the ITF World Junior Rankings. She is coming off a victory on the ITF World Junior Circuit at the Grade A Italian Open last week, and won her first professional title in 2009 on clay at the USTA Pro Circuit $10,000 event in Williamsburg, Va.
Frank, 17, reached a career-high No. 5 in the ITF World Junior Rankings in January and was a semifinalist at the 2009 Dunlop Orange Bowl, while Sarmiento, 17, reached the boys’ singles quarterfinals at the 2009 US Open and has committed to play at the University of Southern California in the fall. Stephens, 17, reached the girls’ singles semifinals at Roland Garros in 2009 and reached the final of an ITF Pro Circuit $25,000 event in Caserta, Italy, two weeks ago. Davis, 17, is the two-time defending USTA Girls’ 16s National Champion and recently reached the girls’ 18s final at the Easter Bowl.
Americans Ashley Harkleroad (2002), Brian Baker (2003) and Alex Kuznetsov (2004) all reached the Roland Garros junior singles final in consecutive years, while Meghann Shaughnessy reached the girls’ final in 1996. Jennifer Capriati (1989) and John McEnroe (1977) were the last Americans to win a junior singles title at Roland Garros.
