Prince Congratulates Isner on Epic Victory
June 27, 2010
Bordentown, NJ — When John Isner finally won the longest match in tennis history, he tossed the Prince racquet he had been wielding for 183 games, over 11 hours, and collapsed to the Wimbledon grass. The 6 foot 9 inch American hit a backhand winner to capture the last of the match’s 980 points, take the fifth set against Nicolas Mahut 70-68, and step into the history books.
“We are extremely proud of John and congratulate him for enduring, persisting and prevailing in this historic event — and are proud to have been part of it as John’s racquet brand of choice,” said Gordon Boggis, President and COO of Prince Sports, Inc.
“When you are out there battling it out, giving it all you’ve got and performing at the highest level, the last thing you want to worry about is your racquet and it inspires confidence to know you are carrying a racquet and technology that was built for those moments,” said Isner after the match. “I am always proud to head out there with the “P” logo on my strings and want to thank my team at Prince for all of the continued support they give me and for being part of another big moment in my career.”
“This was an historic moment for tennis, sport and Prince. We are extremely proud to have been part of such an incredible performance and to continue to have the opportunity to provide John and so many players, worldwide, best-in-class products they can count on,” said Zach Perles, Vice President of Global Communications at Prince Sports, Inc. “We congratulate John and wish him many more Wimbledon victories in years to come. He is a “class-act” both on and off the court and this performance not only showed his incredible talent as a player, but his sportsmanship as a competitor. Everyone who was part of this match came away a winner.”
As Prince celebrates its fortieth anniversary this year, this match becomes part of the long list of momentous occasions the brand has been fortunate to celebrate through the years. “Prince has a history of innovation including inventing Oversize, Longbody and EXO3 racquet technologies, the first “Natural Foot Shape” tennis shoe, and the first commercially viable ball machine. We will continue to bring the best products to market in all categories to help players on Centre Court of Wimbledon, or at a local, public court, play their best tennis and create their own great moments in the future,” added Perles.
“It truly was a real honor to play the greatest match ever at the greatest place for tennis. Something I will obviously never forget,” added Isner.
