ITHF Calls for 2012 Nominations

NEWPORT, R.I. — The International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum is currently accepting open nominations for the Induction Class of 2012. Nominations may be made in three categories – Recent Player, Master Player and Contributor. Nominations for 2012 are due on April 15, 2011, and may be submited online at tennisfame.com.
As the official, global Hall of Fame for the sport of tennis, the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum annually presents the most successful tennis players and contributors to the sport with the tremendous honor of Hall of Fame induction. Established in 1954, the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum is a non-profit institution dedicated to preserving the history of tennis, inspiring and encouraging junior tennis development, enshrining tennis heroes and heroines, and providing a landmark for tennis enthusiasts worldwide. Since 1955, the Hall of Fame has honored 218 individuals from 19 countries.
Players are elected based on a distinguished record of achievement at the highest international levels of competition, with consideration given to integrity, sportsmanship and character. The International Tennis Hall of Fame has two categories for players. The Recent Player category is for those who were active in the sport within the last 20 years, but have not been a significant factor on the ATP World Tour (men’s) or WTA Tour (women’s) within five years prior to induction. The Master Player category is for those players who have been retired from the sport for at least 20 years. Wheelchair Tennis players are eligible in the Recent and Master Player categories as well.
The Contributor category recognizes administrators, coaches, officials,and members of the media whose exceptional contributions have furthered the growth, reputation and character of the sport of tennis. Nominees in the Contributor category do not need to be retired from their activities related to the sport.
All nominations will be reviewed by the Hall of Fame’s Enshrinement Eligibility Committee to determine those who have met the minimum criteria for induction. Voting panels comprised of tennis media, tennis industry experts and Hall of Famers will vote on the ballot that is established. The ballot for 2012 induction will be announced during the 2011 US Open, and those elected by the Hall of Fame’s voting panels will be announced early in 2012. The official Class of 2012 Induction Ceremony will take place in July 2012 at the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum in Newport, Rhode Island.
All nominations must be received on or before April 15, 2011 for induction eligibility in 2012.
