May 11, 2011

Peoria, IL — Maui Jim®, Inc., today announced that Gaël Monfils, the ATP pro tennis player known for his enthusiastic style, has just signed with Maui Jim to be the company’s newest tennis ambassador. Monfils will join a roster of ambassadors who include international tennis Coach, Roger Rasheed, and retired women’s tennis player, Elena Dementieva, to raise awareness of the importance of sunglasses for tennis.

Monfils is currently the highest ranked French tennis player, and ranked ninth in the world ATP rankings. He was the runner-up at the Paris Masters in 2009 and 2010 and a semi-finalist at the 2008 French Open.

Monfils’ tennis style is dramatic and engaging and is a crowd favorite at any tournament. Off the court, he will sport Maui Jim’s Baby Beachsunglasses that incorporate performance-enhancing qualities for fast-speed sports like tennis. The company’s proprietary PolarizedPlus®2 technology reduces 99.9 percent of harmful glare from above, below and behind each lens, improving ball sight. The UV ray reduction is unparalleled because Maui Jim uses up to 9 layers of protection built into each lens to cut 100 percent of UVA and UVB rays. Anti-reflective treatments also eliminate eye fatigue for long training sessions and matches on the court.

“Gaël will be a great Ambassador for Maui Jim because he appreciates superior equipment that can help his game,” said Linda Glassel, vice president of marketing for Maui Jim. “Tennis is a sport for which our glasses are ideally suited to help improve ball sight. One of the best aspects of PolarizedPlus2 is its ability to produces true, vivid colors. We use three rare earth elements on our lenses which, when combined with the glare-protecting elements of each lens, result in significantly truer colors. So, green, blue or red tennis courts are more vibrant; and the white lines and white or yellow balls truly pop.”
