Lisicki Joins Maui Jim Team
June 14, 2011
Peoria, IL — German WTA tennis pro, Sabine Lisicki, will join a growing team of tennis pros on the roster for Maui Jim®, Inc., the fastest growing brand of polarized sunglasses in the world. The tennis team currently includes U.S. No 1., Mardy Fish; French No. 1, Gaël Monfils; and International tennis Coach, Roger Rasheed.
Lisicki turned pro in 2006 and broke onto the world tennis scene in 2007 when she defeated the top seed to win the Odlum Brown Vancouver Open. Since then, she was a finalist at both the Tashkent Open in Uzbekistan and at the BGL Luxembourg Open in 2009. Her big break came with a win at the 2009 Family Circle Cup in Charleston where she defeated Danish pro and current World, No. 1, Caroline Wozniacki, to jump to a world ranking of No. 22. Sabine saw limited action on the court in 2010, as she suffered an ankle injury early in the year, but has returned to her old form this year and is climbing back to the top of the rankings. Just last week, Sabine added her 2nd career title on the WTA Tour by winning the AEGON Classic grass-court tournament in Birmingham, UK without dropping a set along the way. With this second title, Sabine’s ranking jumped inside the top 70 again for the first time since her injury in 2010.
“My father taught me to play tennis at a club after school; and I just loved it,” said Lisicki. “So, even though I’ve had some ups and downs in the past year, 2011 is starting off pretty well. Plus, working with Maui Jim will be terrific. They make great glasses and I’m looking forward to helping them raise awareness about good eye protection.”
Off the court, Lisicki dons Maui Jim’s newest MauiGradient sunglasses, called Lani, for their fashion forward style. She also has a pair of Ho’Okipia and Kulas in her bag. The company’s proprietary PolarizedPlus®2 technology used in all these sunglasses reduces 99.9 percent of harmful glare from above, below and behind each lens. The UV ray reduction is unparalleled because Maui Jim uses up to 9 layers of protection built into each lens to cut 100 percent of UVA and UVB rays while enhancing color. Anti-reflective treatments eliminate eye fatigue during long training sessions.
“Sabine is passionate, with a capital ‘P,’ about tennis,” said Vice President of marketing at Maui Jim, Linda Glassel. “We have over 500 Ambassadors from all sports, from all over the world who give it their all, whether they win or lose. Sabine’s memorable match at the 2011 French Open was a demonstration of her determination and will power to overcome adversity and keep fighting — and that’s what we love. We’re looking forward to a long relationship with her.”
