TicketCity serves up free US Open tickets

August 26, 2011

AUSTIN, Texas — With anticipation rising for the first match of US Open Tennis taking place at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing, New York on Monday, August 29th, TicketCity offers even more excitement around the event with the opportunity to win free tickets in the TicketCity 2011 Racquet Bracket Contest. Sports fans and contest fanatics alike are invited to submit bracket entries for the US Open Men’s Singles category, as well as the Women’s Singles category.

Grand prize winners of each category will receive a $1,000 TicketCity gift card good toward any event TicketCity offers, including the 2012 US Open. Three second places winners in each category will win a $250 TicketCity gift card. Fans are able to enter both a Men’s and Women’s bracket for multiple chances to win.

To enter, fans simply need to visit ticketcity.com between August 25, 2011 at 2pm EDT and August 29, 2011 at 11am EDT and click on the contest image. Entrants will then be directed to complete and submit a bracket for the Men’s Singles category, Women’s Singles category, or both. Participants can also check back for updated standings throughout the tournament and receive email updates with standings upon the completion of rounds.

“Contests are a great way for fans to get involved and excited about sports events. We wanted to create something similar to our March college basketball contest that encourages fans to follow the championship event. This year’s US Open will offer spectacular sports action, and creating a bracket contest gets fans excited, whether they’re attending the event or not,” says Randy Cohen, CEO of TicketCity.

The winners of the 2011 contest are scheduled to be announced shortly after the close of the US Open on September 4, 2011. In recent years, TicketCity has also offered contests around college football and basketball post-season events.

Tennis Standings

There’s a major shift going on in tennis, and one of the best places to see it happen is the US Open in 2011. The scene in Queens will be more hectic than usual because, as Rodger Federer enters his 30s, chances to see him hoist a trophy in a Grand Slam tournament begin to get slimmer (the last man over 30 to win a Slam was Andre Agassi at the 2003 Australian Open; The US Open’s last 30-plus Men’s winner was Pete Sampras in 2002).

Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Rodger Federer top the world rankings. Djokovic is looking to add to his Slam trophies — he’s won the Australian Open and Wimbledon. Chasing those three would be an assortment of players who have the ability to upend the top tier any given day, like Tomas Berdych (who recently beat Federer) and Andy Murray (who beat Djokovic last week). Other qualifiers on the Men’s side to look out for are Americans Andy Roddick and Mardy Fish.

On the Women’s side, Caroline Wozniacki will attempt to continue her number one world rankings by capturing her first title. Russian Vera Zvonareva, who is number two on the world stage, will look to improve on her runner-up finish last year in Queens. Maria Sharapova and Li Na will look to also make a run to hoist the trophy on final Saturday on Arthur Ashe Court.

About the 2011 US Open

The 2011 US Open will be played at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y., August 29th through September 4th, 2011. There are two sessions per day during the two weeks of the US Open Tennis tournament, the morning session at 11am and a night session at 7pm. Matches will be played in the Arthur Ashe Stadium, Louis Armstrong Stadium, and the National Tennis Center, with the primary court being the Arthur Ashe stadium, which is the world’s largest outdoor tennis venue. The US Open, which is widely regarded as one of the most exciting tennis tournaments, fields over 600 players. The tournament is played in the shadow of New York City, with Manhattan celebrities being a regular sight. The matches are full of action and drama, and the electric atmosphere of the crowds keep you tuned in whether its morning, noon, or midnight.
