Federer, Serena sail into US Open Semis

CHICAGO — Battling rain delays, a changing schedule, heat and humidity, Wilson Tour players Roger Federer (seeded number three) and Serena Williams (seeded 28) sailed through to the semifinals at this year’s US Open. Federer, a life-long Wilson player who has won 16 Grand Slam titles, beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 last night to move into the semifinals for the eighth straight year. His opponent tomorrow will be Novak Djokovic. Williams, the only player yet to drop a set, won her match with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, 7-5, 6-1 and will play Caroline Wozniacki tomorrow.
Federer, using his Six.One Tour BLX, is in his eighth straight Open semifinal. This is the fifth straight year they will play each other in New York. Federer holds a 3-1 edge, including beating Djokovic in the 2007 US Open final and losing to him in last year’s semifinals.
Williams will use her Blade Team BLX as she heads into her match on Saturday, where she leads their head-to-head record 2-0. She has won the US Open previously three times.
A Wilson- exclusive player in head to toe Wilson gear, Melanie Oudin is using a Wilson Blade 98 Pink and will play with 18-year-old Jack Sock in the mixed double finals taking place today. The two teenagers face eighth-seeded Gisela Dulko and Eduardo Schwank of Argentina for the championship.
Wilson is the official stringer of the US Open, providing services for all competing players and the Official Ball of the tournament.
