Prince Juniors on display at US Open

September 12, 2011

Bordentown, NJ — While throngs of tennis fans packed into the seats of Arthur Ashe stadium this weekend to see tennis’ biggest names of today, on Sunday, the outer courts, those far removed from the bright lights of Center Court featured some of the superstars of tomorrow and the weaponry they are choosing to arm themselves with as the game continues to evolve.

Oliver Golding, the 17 year-old Brit, armed with his Prince EXO3 Rebel 95 racquet, Beast XP polyester string and laced up in his Prince T22 footwear, captured his first Grand Slam title. With the win, Golding becomes the first British athlete since Andy Murray in 2004 to capture the coveted title. But the game has changed a lot in seven years. Players like the 6’2” Golding are becoming bigger, faster, and even more athletic than their predecessors. They understand that the game is changing and that they need to be armed with tomorrow’s technology today, in order to compete at the sport’s highest levels.

Golding, is one of more than eighty number one ranked juniors (in their respective country and age group) around the globe choosing to arm themselves with Prince EXO3 technology.

“I am extremely happy to have won today my first grand slam junior title and share it with Prince,” said Golding, the expected #2 ranked junior boy in the world when new rankings are posted. “The level of play continues to increase out here and two or three points per set can often be the difference between a win and a loss. It is nice to be armed with racquet technology engineered specifically for those points when I need to get just a little bit extra on shots I hit at full stretch. I hope I can share many other successes with Prince.”

EXO3 is a patented, visible technology that eliminates old fashioned, restrictive grommets and replaces them with large holes along the frame. The result is ultimate string freedom, allowing for enhanced string response from edge-to-edge. This is perfectly suited for today’s athletes as they push each other out of position, hit more shots on the run, and thus make contact outside direct center of the string bed.

“We developed this technology alongside elite juniors who understand how fast the game is changing. We are fully committed to supporting the next generation of athletes looking to take their game to the next level – whether that is winning the US Open or simply making their high school tennis team,” said, Ruben Zrihen, Sports Marketing Manager at Prince. “For us, it is all about a relentless focus on the future and who, and what, comes Next.”

In addition to Golding’s success, Demi Schuurs of the Netherlands captured the Girls’ Doubles title with her Prince EXO3 Black. For Schuurs this appearance was her fourth straight Grand Slam doubles final. She and her partner outlasted yet another athlete wielding EXO3 technology, 15 year-old Taylor Townsend. Townsend, an Atlanta, Georgia native was recently featured in The New York Times and referred to by Richard Williams, father to champions Venus and Serena Williams, as “…one of the best 15-year-olds you can see today in America or I think in the world…I think she’s better than my daughters at that time. She has more variety.” Townsend, part of the crop of tomorrow’s potential superstars has chosen to take to the court with the EXO3 Tour racquet.
