Wilson players continue to quarterfinals
September 7, 2011
CHICAGO — Continuing their successful march into the quarterfinals of the 2011 US Open, Wilson Racquet Sports is well represented with the world’s most accomplished tour players including Roger Federer, (number three seed), Flavia Pennetta (number 26 seed) Andrea Petkovic (number 10 seed) and Serena Williams, (number 28 seed). All will be front and center today as play resumes after a one-day rain delay, weather permitting.
Williams, coming back after much time off the Tour, is holding her own against respected competitors, competing with her Blade Team BLX. “She continues to play at an extremely high level of tennis, showing her natural athletic abilities and fierce commitment to win. We are happy to have her on our team,” said Mike Steck, global director marketing, Wilson Racquet Sports.
Federer, using his Six.One Tour BLX, has been looking very strong, hoping to win his sixth US Open title. At this year’s US Open, he reached a record 30th consecutive Grand Slam quarterfinal.
Pennetta, playing with her Blade 98 Pink BLX, eliminated Maria Sharapova, (seed number three) and is drawing large crowds that have shown great enthusiasm for her style of play. On Sunday, Pennetta overcame a 0-5 deficit in the tiebreaker to beat 13-seed Chinese Peng Shuai, while battling the high heat and humidity on court.
Petkovic, using a Six.One Team BLX and playing in her fourth US Open, wants to do much better than her fourth round win in 2010. This is her first US Open quarterfinal.
Wilson is the official stringer of the US Open, providing services for all competing players and the Official Ball of the tournament.
Wilson significantly expanded its presence at this year’s US Open with a newly renovated retail store, where sales have been steady with the brand’s Fall 2011 apparel and the much loved oversized Wilson tennis balls, with over 500 being sold daily.
