Wilson players emerge from week one at US Open

CHICAGO — Wilson Racquet Sports, a division of leading sports equipment manufacturer Wilson Sporting Goods, is enjoying strong momentum after the first week of the US Open, with key tour players securing their places in Round Three. Yesterday, Flavia Pennetta, seeded 26 and a Wilson player since 2007, upset third seed Maria Sharapova in a hotly contested match. Pennetta uses a Wilson 98 Pink BLX with a Pro Overgrip.
Andrea Petkovic and Serena Williams continued their winning ways using the Wilson Six.One Team BLX and the Blade Team BLX respectively. Petkovic joined Wilson Tour player Mardy Fish last week to lead a successful attempt with 658 New Yorkers to breaking a Guinness World Records® title for, “Most people bouncing tennis balls on tennis racquets in one location.”
Roger Federer, using the Six.One Tour BLX, is competing in his twelfth US Open and has been with Wilson his entire career. He won all of his Grand Slam titles with a Wilson racquet. Mardy Fish defeated Malek Jaziri 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 with his Six.One 95 BLX to move to the next round of play. Other Wilson Tour Players remaining in the US Open include Juan Martin Del Potro, Alexandr Dolgopolov who plays with a Six.One Tour BLX, Feliciano Lopez, using the Pro Open BLX and Ernests Gulbis who plays with a Blade 98 BLX.
Wilson significantly expanded its presence at this year’s US Open with a newly renovated retail store, where consumers may meet players and the launch of its Summer/Spring 2012 performance apparel August 29 for retailers and media at a fashion show in NYC this past week.
