Philadelphia, PA. — The weeklong Delaware Investments U.S. Open squash tournament culminated last night in a match pitting two of Dunlop’s top Tour Team members, Nick Matthew and Amr Shabana, against one another. As the top ranked player in the world, Nick Matthew was the favorite going in, but it was the Egyptian Shabana who left the glass court victorious after a 51 minute four game final he won going away 11/9, 8/11, 11/2, 11/4.

In the first two games, the crowd in Philadelphia saw each player battle back from an early deficit to produce some end-of-game drama. In the first game it was the Englishman Matthew who used his Dunlop Biomimetic Evolution 130 to claw back from a 6-1 deficit, only to go down 11-9. Then in the second game, Shabana upped the ante by coming back from an 8-1 hole using his Biomimetic Ultimate, only to fall 11-8. From that point forward, Shabana dominated as Matthew began to struggle physically. The final two games lasted a total of only 15 minutes. This is Shabana’s second U.S. Open title in three years.
