Cerretani Named PTR Male Player of the Year

Hilton Head Island, SC — Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) will present its annual awards this week during the 2012 PTR International Tennis Symposium. The event, which includes 50-plus on court and classroom presentations for tennis teachers and coaches, a tennis trade show and tournament is being held February 24-28, 2012, at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress, in Orlando, Florida
James Cerretani, of Boston, Massachusetts, has been named PTR Male Player of the Year. Currently ranked #60 in the world, Cerretani’s career high is #45.
A graduate of Brown University, in 2002 Cerretani helped the Men’s Tennis Team to its first ever Ivy League Title, defeating Harvard in the final. He was named All Ivy League in Singles and Doubles, and was raked as high as #7 (with Adil Shamasdin).
Cerretani turned pro in 2005, and won his first ATP World Tour Title in 2008, playing with Hanescu, in Kitzbuhel, Austria. He went on to capture two more ATP World Tour Titles, both in Johannesburg, South Africa. In 2009, with Norman, and in 2011, with his former college partner Shamasdin. Later that year, Cerretani made it to the Quarterfinal round at Wimbledon.
His favorite moment on the Tour was defeating Roger Federer in front of a packed house in Basel, Switzerland.
Cerretani, who joined PTR while playing the US Open in 2011, is coached by Ales Reter, and his sister, Chrissy Cerretani, who is also a member of PTR.
PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals with more than 14,000 members in 117 countries. It has the greatest percentage of multicultural and women members of any such organization. PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and servicing tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the game.
