Rydberg Named PTR Wheelchair Pro of the Year

Hilton Head Island, SC — Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) will present its annual awards during the 2012 PTR International Tennis Symposium. The event, which includes 50-plus on court and classroom presentations for tennis teachers and coaches, a tennis trade show and tournament is being held February 24-28, 2012, at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress, in Orlando, Florida
Jon Rydberg, of Oakdale, Minnesota, is PTR Wheelchair Professional of the Year.
Rydberg captured Doubles Gold at the 2011 ParaPan American Games in Mexico. He has earned quite a few gold and silver medals, including Singles Gold and Doubles Silver at the 2007 ParaPan Games. The two time Paralympian has been a member of the US World Cup Team 10 times. Rydberg has captured multiple Singles and Doubles titles on the ITF NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour. He has been ranked as high as #1 in the USA and #11 in the world. In 2001, Rydberg was named Player of the Year by the USTA.
Rydberg, who has been a PTR member since 2008, also coaches tennis. In addition to conducting clinics at the University of Minnesota’s Baseline Tennis Center, Jon is the Head Coach for the Girls Tennis team at East Ridge High School in Woodbury, Minnesota.
Rydberg also excelled in basketball. In 2006, he was National Wheelchair Basketball Association All-Star, representing the Minnesota Timberwolves, and in 1997, was a member of the Intercollegiate Wheelchair Basketball National Championship Team at the University of Texas.
PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals with more than 14,000 members in 117 countries. It has the greatest percentage of multicultural and women members of any such organization. PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and servicing tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the game.
