Wilson Boston Open a smashing success
May 22, 2012
The 7th annual Wilson Boston Open took place last weekend, and marked yet another truly thrilling competition. Between the intense athletes and the groundbreaking equipment, this year’s tournament got some soaring reviews.
Wilson Advisory Staff Member, Holvy DePauw, was the star of the court this year. He dominated the tournament and further evolved his reputation as “Mr. Boston Open”. This makes for Depauw’s third consecutive men’s doubles title adding to his previous singles titles in 2008 and mixed doubles titles in 2011. His championship at this year’s Wilson Boston Open is his 5th title to date.
“I was just so excited that I could win three in a row and get the trophy”, said Holvy Depauw. “It is a long standing tradition that if a player wins their division three straight years, they get to keep the Championship trophy. All of the hard work and training has paid off for me.”
“I have watched Holvy play this event for the past 5 out of 6 years,” said Terri Graham, US Business Director for Wilson Indoor Racquet Sports. “I have never seen him more focused and determined than this year. The level of his play was unbelievable. He truly is Mr. Boston Open.”
Depauw teamed with Quang-Minh Nguyen who is also from Northern California. Together they took out Wijaya Agusriadi and Mu He 21 – 15, 23 – 21.
Adding to the list of successful Wilson Ad Staff players was Sarun Vivatpatanakul, who was a finalist in both the men’s singles and mixed doubles events. “It was wonderful to see Sarun in two finals his first year competing with a Wilson racquet,” said Terri Graham, US Business Director for Wilson Indoor Racquet Sports. “He is truly an outstanding player.
Both Holvy Depauw and Sarun Vivatpatanakul tore up the courts with the Wilson Vertex 2. Wilson Sporting Goods Co. has been the title sponsor of the Wilson Boston Open for the past 6 years. But Wilson racquets weren’t the only thing out on the court. The new Wilson Tour shuttlecock was the Official Bird of the tournament. Arthur Schwartz, co-tournament Director, noted that players, event officials and tournament organizers reported that the Wilson Tour 100 shuttlecock performed to the absolute highest standard.
With all the exhilarating competition and innovative equipment, there’s no denying that the 2012 Wilson Boston Open was an incredible success. “We were thrilled with this year’s edition of the Wilson Boston Open”, said Arthur Schwartz. “Not only did the competition have strong players, but the athletes turned out to be remarkably matched, making a fabulous show for our spectators.”
