Insignia provides sustainable products

ROSWELL, GA — US Open players and their guests are sported a new accessory at this year’s event that creatively combines sustainability and tennis. For the first time, all credential lanyards used during the tournament were made from recycled tennis ball cans and lids. The lanyards, provided by J.T. Marburger, President of Insignia Promotions, were a new addition to a Green Initiative program that was introduced by the US Open in 2008.

Marburger collected more than 600 lbs. of tennis ball containers and lids from the United States Tennis Association (USTA) from the 2011 US Open and worked with a recycling center to turn the material into recycled polyester (RPET). The material was then weaved into lanyards that are being used to identify US Open participants and their guests.

“Insignia Promotions has become an established leader in finding ways to turn discarded materials into new, fresh and functional promotional products,” said Marburger. “The process is environmentally friendly, economical and creative. We’re thrilled to be working with the United States Tennis Association on such an important and innovative initiative.”
