US Open Racquetball Championship
October 18, 2012
Minneapolis — HEAD Penn’s Paola Longoria, world’s No. 1 ranked female racquetball player, continued her dominance on the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) in winning her third United Healthcare US OPEN Racquetball Championship. The US OPEN is the racquetball’s premier event of the year. With the win, Longoria is now the event’s two-time defending champion. Her first US OPEN title came in 2008 when she became the event’s youngest winner ever at the age of only 18.
The win in the Twin Cities pushed Longoria’s professional winning streak to 12 consecutive tournaments in which she has played stretching back to May 2011. After signing a long term sponsorship deal with HEAD Penn in April, Longoria has used HEAD’s Black Widow 160 racquet and has not lost yet! During her professional winning streak, the 22 year old San Luis Potosí, Mexico native also won the 2012 Women’s Singles World Championship, the 2011 & 2012 Women’s Doubles World Championships, and the 2011 Women’s Singles Pan American Games Championship.
Off the court, Paola is a student in Engineering in Administration and Systems at Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon. Paola and the LPRT are now headed to Mexico City the first weekend in November.
On the men’s side of the HEAD Penn team, Rocky Carson took home 2nd place honors in the IRT division, solidifying his position as the #2 ranked player in the world. Both Rocky Carson and Paola Longoria are coached by HEAD’s own Hall of Famer, Fran Davis.
