Watson wins first WTA tour event
October 21, 2012
Greenville, SC — After three hours of intense baseline action in yesterday’s stellar final, 20 year old Heather Watson found herself down triple match point at 4-5 in the third. But at that moment she steadied her nerves, summoned the strokes she’s worked on for countless hours, and fought off each match point with her new new Biomimetic M3.0 racquet.
Eventually she won the game, and after having to fend off one final match point in the tie-break, Watson won the Japan Open title, the first for a British woman since 1988, and Heather’s first on the WTA Tour. The final score was 7-5, 5-7, 7-6.
“Britain has been breaking quite a few records recently,” said Watson. “I’m happy I could break another one today. I’m proud to do this for my country.”
Watson recently switched to the new Dunlop Biomimetic M3.0 racquet strung with Dunlop Black Widow strings. “We’ve worked with Heather this year to get her the racquet and strings that best suit her game, and after this switch, we’re happy to see how well she’s playing,” said Hunter Hines, Director of Marketing for Dunlop. “The completely redesigned M3.0 racquet gives Heather some additional power, but maintains the legendary feel Dunlop racquets are known for. And the seven sided Black Widow string gives Heather some added bite to her strokes that enhances the spin on the ball.”
“The new M3.0 racquet is out this week and we couldn’t be more happy to see it in Heather’s hands as she won the tournament this weekend,” said Kai Nitsche, VP and General Manager of Dunlop Racquet Sports. “With high profile Tour wins like that and unprecedented marketing support, we’re looking forward to a successful launch of Heather’s M3.0 and five other new Biomimetic racquets.”
