Ashaway, RI — Ashaway Racket Strings has introduced a companion string to its popular Zyex® monofilament tennis string, MonoGut® ZX. 17 Gauge (1.22 mm) MonoGut ZX Pro is a thinner, lighter string, designed to provide even better elongation, snap-back and playability for players who do not require the added durability of its 16 gauge (1.27 mm) counterpart. But like its counterpart, the 100% Zyex monofilament construction of MonoGut ZX Pro provides exceptional dynamic stiffness and gut-like playability, and the total lack of polyester increases elongation and decreases stiffness for comfortable soft power.

“We call this model MonoGut ZX Pro because most professional players prefer the responsiveness of a thinner, lighter string,” said Ashaway Vice President Steve Crandall. “With its 100% Zyex monofilament construction, MonoGut ZX Pro provides exceptional energy return and plays more like natural gut than any other synthetic material. This means more power. MonoGut ZX Pro also remains soft at higher tensions, reducing impact shock for more comfortable performance—what we call ‘soft power.’”

Reports from players who have tested the string have been extremely positive, said Crandall. “Interestingly, reports we’re getting from players of all stripes indicate that MonoGut series strings also generate spin like the so-called high-tech polyesters. Because of the strings’ high elasticity and low coefficient of friction, players claim better snap-back for improved spin, better results from more compact strokes, and overall reduced impact shock and enhanced comfort.” Crandall noted few breakage problems have been reported, and quoted several players as saying: ‘Playing with this string is just easier;’ ‘Great power and spin;’ and ‘Totally different feel than when playing with other monos.’”

MonoGut ZX Pro is designed for players seeking both gut-like playability and superior durability in a solid monofilament string, as well as players using monofilament strings in hybrid stringing patterns. Either red or a natural gut-like tan in color, MonoGut ZX Pro is available in 40-ft (12 m) sets, and in both 360-ft (110 m) and 720-ft (220 m) reels. Recommended stringing tension is up to 60 lbs. (27 kgs).
