Azarenka wins 2nd Australian Open
January 26, 2013
CHICAGO — Wilson tour player and current WTA No.1 Vika Azarenka repeats at the Australian Open, winning her 2nd consecutive women’s singles title, defeating Li Na 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Azarenka, playing with the Juice 100, continues her 48-week stay at number one.
“Winning for the second year in a row is incredible,” said Azarenka. “It’s the perfect way to start the year. I had the best year of my career in 2012 after switching to the Juice and it feels amazing to continue the good form and win another Slam.”
In an emotional match interrupted by fireworks for Australia Day, Azarenka gave it her all and fought hard to win the first set saving four set points. She came back from a set down and sealed her victory on her first match point in two hours and forty minutes. The win is a testament to Azarenka’s absolute ability to stay focused on winning.
In 2012, Azarenka reached her first final at the US Open, won two medals at the London Olympics, played in her second successive Wimbledon semifinal, and captured six trophies. She won her first Grand Slam title at Melbourne Park last year as part of a 26-match unbeaten run to start 2012.
“Vika is a champion and has showed us all what she is made of,” said Renaud Vallon, global tour director of Wilson Racquet Sports. “She works hard at her game and knows what it takes to win. Having her as part of the Wilson family is a great honor, as well as a perfect partnership.”
The Juice, designed to enhance power and spin for a wide range of player types and skill levels, has a lighter-weight, more forgiving modern frame design in mid-plus head sizes to provide more power and more spin. It has a unique, modern feel for both aggressive baselines and players looking for an ideal “all-around” racket choice.
Wilson owns more Grand Slam titles than any other racket brand.
