Djokovic wins 3rd Australian Open in a row

Kennelbach/Austria — Novak Djokovic set another record as he won his HEAD-to-HEAD final at the Australian Open, becoming the first tennis pro who captured the title for three straight years. Djokovic, playing with his brand new YouTek™ Graphene™ Speed Pro beat fellow HEAD racquet rebel Andy Murray 6-7(2), 7-6(3), 6-3, 6-2 to run his Grand Slam title total to six.

“Winning three in a row, is a huge achievement.” said World Nr. 1 Novak Djokovic. “I’m always motivated in every match that I play. But of course Grand Slam finals are always bringing something new, something special to every player, and that’s where you want to perform your best,” said the champion.

Over the past six months Andy Murray, who plays with the YouTek™ IG Radical Pro, has reached new levels in tennis. “The last few months have been the best of my life. I made the Wimbledon final, won the Olympics, won the US Open. I was close here as well. I have to try and look at the positives of the last few months, and I think I’m going the right direction.”

HEAD Racquet Rebel Roberta Vinci (YouTek™ IG Extreme Pro), who combined with partner Sara Errani, won the women’s doubles crown (6-2, 3-6, 6-2), defeating HEAD Racquet Rebels Casey Dellacqua (YouTek™ IG Radical MP)and Australians16 years old Ashleigh Barty (YouTek™ Graphene™ Speed MP), playing her first Grand Slam final in her career. The pair has won three of the last four majors – the French Open, the US Open and Melbourne.

In the men’s double HEAD player Robin Haase (YouTek™ IG Prestige Mid) reached the final with his partner Igor Sijsling. The team from the Netherlands was beaten 3-6, 4-6 by the Bryan brothers from the United States.

After starting the Australian Open with a wildcard, HEAD Racquet Rebel Matthew Ebden (YouTek™ Graphene™ Instinct MP)and Jarmila Gajdosova finished the tournament with a Grand Slam title in the mixed doubles. The Australian pair won the essential game against the Czech duo Lucie Hradecka and Frantisek Cermak 6-3, 7-5.

Maria Sharapova, who served with her brand new HEAD YouTek™ Graphene™ Instinct, reached the semi-finals in singles where she came to the court with the loss of only nine games but was not able to get past China’s Li Na 2-6, 2-6. Sloane Stephens, another HEAD Racquet Rebel, surprisingly took a spot in the semi-finals. The 19 year old American beat No. 3 seeded Serena Williams with her YouTek™ IG Radical Pro in the quarter finals.
