Carson wins National Doubles Championship

Phoenix, AZ — After reaching a career high ranking of No. 6 on the International Racquetball Tour earlier last week, HEAD Penn’s Tony Carson (Denver,Colorado) continued playing the best racquetball of his career in the Arizona sunshine thispast weekend. Along with his partner, Carson won the 2013 Men’s Doubles NationalChampionship and captured his first USA Racquetball National Adult title.
With the win, Tony has earned a one year appointment to the USA Racquetball NationalTeam Pool. The US National Team will compete in March at the 2013 International Racquetball Federation’s (IRF) Pan American Championships in Cali, Colombia.
Carson has represented his country before on the international stage winning silver medals in the Men’s Doubles competition at the 2011 Pan American Championships and the 2012 World Championships. While studying at Colorado State University – Pueblo, Tony won the 2009 USA Racquetball Intercollegiate Men’s Singles National Title. Carson began playing full time on the men’s professional tour in 2007 ending the season ranked as the No. 29 in the world. In the subsequent years he has made a steady climb up the rankings cracking the Top 10 at the end of last season. During the current season, a string of quarterfinal finishes has propelled Tony’s rankings to his career best.
Carson teamed up with fellow HEAD Penn team member Jackie Paraiso to finish second in the Mixed Doubles competition. Past US National Team members Tim Sweeney and Doug Ganim paired up to win their third consecutive National Doubles Championship in the Men’s 45+ division.
