Knoth completes championship college career
March 24, 2013
Tempe, Arizona — For the fourth time in as many years, HEAD Penn’s Taylor Knoth reached the final of the USA Racquetball Intercollegiate Championships Men’s Singles Division. As a freshman in 2010 playing for the University of Oregon, Knoth stormed his way through the draw, but fell in the final to a player who is now a top playing professional. After a transfer to Oregon State University in 2011, Taylor propelled the Beavers to a National Team Championship while winning one of his own in the Men’s Singles Division. Last year Knoth battled through some injuries, but he was able to reach the final before suffering defeat. This year — Taylor’s senior year — saw no defeats as he brought home the Men’s Singles and Men’s Doubles National Intercollegiate Championships!
In the Men’s Singles final, Knoth defeated fellow Team HEAD Penn player Nick Montalbano from Colorado State University — Pueblo. The match was a repeat of the Men’s Singles final in 2011. The pair of HEAD Penn players also faced off in the Men’s Doubles Final with Knoth again coming out victorious. Taylor’s wins helped the Oregon State University Beavers sweep the Team Titles (Overall, Men’s, and Women’s). The overall team title is the seventh in the last eight years for the Beavers from Corvallis, Oregon.
Knoth’s three National Intercollegiate Championships add to a long and impressive racquetball resume. His latest championship hardware will sit next to five International Racquetball Federation (IRF) Junior World Championships, 16 USA Racquetball (USAR) National Junior Titles, and 3 USAR National High School Titles.
With his win in the Men’s Singles division, Knoth earns a one year appointment to the USA Racquetball Adult National Team pool of players. Players from that pool will represent Team USA at all international and world competitions.
