BoardRoom honors USPTA

February 10, 2014

HOUSTON — For its dedication to enhancing the relationship between clubs and tennis professionals, BoardRoom magazine honored the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) with the “2013 Excellence in Achievement Award” for Association of the Year.

“Our members have continually requested to learn more about the business side of managing clubs and facilities as many aspire to become directors of tennis, directors of sports or even general managers,” USPTA CEO John Embree said. “To receive this recognition shows that the relationships with our allied organizations such as BoardRoom and CMAA are providing a great benefit to our members. This is an honor.”

The award was presented on Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) World Conference in Orlando, Fla., as part of the magazine’s 15th annual “Excellence in Achievement” awards program. USPTA President Tom McGraw, Immediate Past President Tom Daglis, and First Vice President Chuck Gill were all present to accept the award on the association’s behalf.

USPTA has worked closely in the past year with organizations such as BoardRoom and CMAA to elevate the standards of its tennis-teaching professionals, including hosting a CMAA Panel at the 2013 USPTA World Conference during a day dedicated to club operations and business. These panelists provided great insight into club management and what general managers are looking for when they hire tennis professionals.

The BoardRoom magazine “Excellence in Achievement” Awards is the only private club industry award program that recognizes clubs’ business partners. BoardRoom magazine’s industry peers review and select these outstanding suppliers and consultants, which represent various aspects of course and club operations. Winners are selected each year for overall excellence in their respective fields, achievements, innovation, vision for future growth and continued impact on private club operations.

BoardRoom magazine — endorsed by the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) and the official publication for the Association of Private Club Directors (APCD) and the Distinguished Clubs of the World — announced its 15th annual award winners in January. Award winners in 60 categories will be recognized for their achievements at the 2014 CMAA World Conference in Orlando, Feb. 4-8.
