Sumantri named PTR WA Member of the Year

Hilton Head Island, SC — Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) will present its annual awards this week during the 2014 PTR International Tennis Symposium. The event, which includes 40-plus on court and classroom presentations for tennis teachers and coaches, a trade show and tournament, is being held on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
Dea Sumantri, of Seattle, Washington, has been named PTR Member of the Year for the State. This award is presented to a PTR member in the United States who has shown dedication and diligence in promoting and supporting tennis and PTR.
An advocate for education and professional development, Sumantri has earned Professional ratings in three of PTR’s certification pathways: Adult Development, 10 & Under and 11 to 17. She has been actively recruiting younger coaches for PTR in the Seattle area, and hosting PTR Certification Workshops so others can learn to teach the game.
As Director of Tennis at the Sand Point Country Club, Sumantri has been growing its tennis program by doubling membership since 2008. She has been on the teaching staff at University of Washington’s Nordstrom Tennis Center and she was recently recruited to be part of the elite teaching staff at the new 10-court indoor facility in Seattle, Tennis Center at Sand Point. As a collegiate tennis player for University of Washington, Sumantri was All-American. Coincidentally, she was recruited by then coach, Patty (Fendick) McCain, this year’s PTR’s Texas Member of the Year.
PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals with more than 14,600 members in 121 countries. It has the greatest percentage of multicultural and women members of any such organization. PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and servicing tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the game.
