Embree to serve on ITHF Board of Directors

March 21, 2014

HOUSTON — On March 21, USPTA CEO and Executive Director John Embree was formally invited to serve on the International Tennis Hall of Fame Board of Directors as a Tennis Association Director. Embree accepted the nomination and will begin serving on the Board of Directors in April.

“To be strongly aligned with allied organizations who are stakeholders in tennis, like the International Tennis Hall of Fame, is a core pillar to our strategic plan,” Embree said. “I am honored and excited to be invited to serve on the board, and especially to represent USPTA.”

Tennis Association Directors are invited to serve on the International Tennis Hall of Fame’s board to ensure that the many facets of the tennis industry are represented and have an opportunity to participate in the Hall of Fame’s work to preserve the rich history of the sport. The Hall of Fame operates an extensive museum in Newport, R.I., and each year presents the highest honor in the sport of tennis – enshrinement in the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

“USPTA represents an important voice of the thousands of teaching professionals who contribute so greatly to the growth of tennis and have been at the forefront of many developments in the tennis industry over the years. We are very pleased to welcome John’s input and participation on the Board of Directors of the International Tennis Hall of Fame to represent this group,” said Hall of Fame CEO Mark Stenning.

In addition to working closely with Stenning and the Hall of Fame’s Board of Directors, Embree will also be working with Todd Martin, who started his new role as CEO-designate at the Hall of Fame on April 1, and will succeed Stenning in September.

“I had the good fortune to work with John for many years when he was at Wilson, and I’ve seen firsthand the growth and progress he can foster in an organization. He will most certainly be an asset to the Hall of Fame Board of Directors, and I look forward to working with him more in the future,” Martin said.

Embree, who has more than 30 years of experience in the tennis industry, has served as the USPTA’s CEO/Executive Director since January 2013.

He has served in a variety of roles on the manufacturing side, including with Prince, Balle de Match LLC and Wilson Racquet Sports. Additionally, he operated a tennis consulting practice to assist endemic brands, associations and new corporate entities in maximizing their impact in the tennis marketplace. His client list included the USTA, Intercollegiate Tennis Association, Peter Burwash International, Off the Grid Technologies, and Donnay USA.

Embree has served on many national USTA committees, is a past member of TIA Board of Directors and Executive Committee, member of the Board of Directors of American College of Sports Medicine Foundation, and past President of the Chicago Tennis Patrons Foundation.
