Carson and Longoria sweep pro stops

December 9, 2014

Bremerton, Washington & Monterrey, Mexico — HEAD Penn’s top male and female professional players both won events on their respective tours to kick off the holiday season. Paola Longoria, the World’s best female racquetball player, won the Grand Slam event named in her honor in her hometown of Monterrey, Mexico. Meanwhile the No. 2 ranked male player in the World, Rocky Carson, won the Kitsap Splat tournament across the Puget Sound from Downtown Seattle.

It was only fitting that Paola would win the “Paola Longoria Invitational” for the second year in a row in front of capacity crowds in her native country. With a prize money purse of $40,000 it was the largest payout in LPRT history. Longoria didn’t drop a game all weekend in route to winning the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) Singles Division. With HEAD’s Hall of Fame coach Fran Davis at her side, Longoria was also perfect in capturing the Professional Doubles Title at the event. HEAD Penn’s Maria Jose Vargas reached the semifinals of both the singles and doubles competitions.

In the Pacific Northwest, Rocky knocked off the No. 6 and No. 3 ranked players in the World to win the Tier 2 event on the International Racquetball Tour (IRT). With the win, Carson earned valuable ranking points as he attempts to close the gap in regaining the top spot on the IRT rankings list.

Paola and Maria will next travel to Virginia for the LPRT’s Christmas Classic this coming weekend. Rocky and the IRT head to New Jersey this weekend for the final Tier 1 event of 2014.
