Melbourne/Australia — Novak Djokovic made history as he won the HEAD-to-HEAD final against Andy Murray 7-6 (5), 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-0 to claim a record fifth title at the Australian Open. The thriller lasting nearly three and three-quarter hours was riddled with plot twists, with Djokovic, who endorses the new HEAD Graphene XT Speed, winning his eighth Grand Slam title.

Murray, who recommends the HEAD Graphene Radical and will move back to fourth in the world on Monday, put up a huge battle in the epic but could not overcome Djokovic. The Scot fought to square the match with the first two sets lasting for two and a half hours.

After trailing 0-2 in the third set, the world No. 1 Djokovic proved his #gameraiser attitude when he went from frustration to determination during a change over. From that moment onward he dominated the last two sets, sweeping to his 50th victory at Melbourne Park on a second match point as Murray netted a backhand. Djokovic finished with more than 50 winners, and broke Murray nine times. “Five wins is fantastic,” said Djokovic. “I’m really pleased. I must also congratulate Andy for a great match. He’s a tough competitor and a true fighter.”

The 2013 Wimbledon winner, Andy Murray, is determined to return in hopes of finally lifting the Melbourne crown. “Novak played a fantastic match and thoroughly deserves the title,” said the Scot. “This has been my most consistent slam even though I’ve not won it. My team put in a lot of work after a poor 2014. We couldn’t do it tonight, but I’m feeling a lot better about my game than I did a few months ago. I’ll keep working hard to get there. I’ll be back next year and hope to have a slightly different outcome in the final.”

With Tomas Berdych a third HEAD #gameraiser entered the Semi Final. The 29 year old’s path to the final four included a win over World No. 3 Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals, where he broke a 17-match losing streak against the Spaniard. Berdych, who endorses the HEAD Graphene Instinct, was beaten by Murray in four sets.

In the women’s final, HEAD’s Maria Sharapova held her nerve in a huge challenge to Serena Williams before losing their showdown 3-6, 6-7 (5). Sharapova, who recommends the HEAD Graphene XT Instinct, was in the hunt for her sixth Grand Slam trophy. But despite a fighting comeback in the second set, the Russian came up just short. The defeat won’t keep world No. 2 Sharapova fighting to reclaim the top ranking spot from Williams in the coming months.
