Thompson named PTR Professional of the Year

Hilton Head Island, SC — Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) presented its annual awards last night during the 2015 PTR International Tennis Symposium. The event, which includes 40-plus educational presentations for tennis teachers and coaches, a trade show and tournament, is being held until February 22, on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Jack Thompson, of Sailsbury, North Carolina, has been named PTR Professional of the Year. This award is presented to the PTR Professional who has displayed the highest standards of conduct and service to both tennis and PTR. Areas of consideration include service to PTR; participation in national, sectional or local tennis organizations; personal or student rankings/performance; exhibitions or speaking engagements; publication of articles; tournaments; coaching; tennis related volunteer/community service; and continued education.

Currently, Thompson is Head Pro at Cabarrus Country Club, and Co-Director of the Performance Tennis Academy at the Sportscenter in Concord, North Carolina.

With a graduate background in Exercise Physiology and Motor Learning, Thompson is co-author of Power, Speed and Stamina for Tennis: A Complete Guide for the Player and Coach. He co-wrote an expanded second edition with sport and orthopedic physical therapist, Gray Cook.

Always willing to share his coaching knowledge and insights, he has been a speaker at numerous PTR symposia, and is a respected member of the tennis industry. Thompson has been a frequently contributor to TennisPro, the official publication of PTR. His submissions are well researched and written, and he’s not afraid to broach difficult topics. Thompson is a prolific contributor to PTR and to the game.

PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals with more than 15,000 members in 125 countries. It has the greatest percentage of multicultural and women members of any such organization. PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and servicing tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the game.
