New PTR junior apprentice memberships

March 18, 2015

Hilton Head Island, SC — In an effort to build a future generation of young tennis coaches, Professional Tennis Registry has started a new Junior Apprentice Program for qualified young tennis players ages 14-15. The PTR Junior Apprentice program provides a free PTR membership and a discounted price for 10 & Under education. The membership is for 4.0 and above players who are interested in assisting with 10 & Under tennis programs.

The program addresses three needs. First is the concern about the aging infrastructure of tennis coaches and the lack of younger teachers to fill the void. Second, the Apprentice Program relates to the need for qualified assistants to help certified pros who work with young children. With multiple children on one court, assistants play a vital role. With a Junior Apprentice being closer in age to students 10 and under, the Junior Apprentice has a better chance of relating to and serving as a role model for them. Finally, the Apprentice Program speaks to the financial barrier for 14 and 15 year olds by providing a free PTR membership and a deeply discounted cost for 10 & under education.

When a Junior Apprentice reaches age 16, they will have the opportunity to become certified by converting their membership to the very affordable PTR on Campus, which is for full time students ages 16-24.
