May 13, 2015
Lahaina, HI – Maui Jim, the company that has been voted favorite sunglasses company and best sunglasses by optical retailers and the top health, fitness and outdoor sports media around the world, has added WTA Tennis Professional Flavia Pennetta to its roster of players who will wear the company’s PolarizedPlus2® sunglasses. Other ambassadors on Maui Jim’s roster include WTA Pro Martina Hingis and ATP Pros David Ferrer, Philipp Kohlschreiber and Benoît Paire.
The company announced the agreement at the 2015 Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, the WTA tournament that runs from May 11 to 17 and is considered the second most prestigious clay event after Roland Garros.
Pennetta is considered one of the most interesting players to watch and is known for her enthusiastic playing style and outspoken nature on the court. From Brindisi, Italy, Pennetta is currently the No. 25 singles player and No. 16 doubles player with new partner Hsieh Su-Wei. Penetta started playing the game at the age of five and has gone on to become Italy’s first top-10 female singles player (2009); and also the first Italian tennis player to be ranked No. 1 in Doubles (2011).
In doubles, Pennetta won her first Grand Slam title at the 2011 Australian Open with partner Gisela Dulko; and also reached the 2005 US Open finals with Elena Dementieva and 2014 US Open finals with Maui Jim Ambassador Martina Hingis. The new team of Penetta and Hsieh is just starting to jell. They made it to the quarter finals of the 2015 Mutua Madrid Open.
“Over the past year, we have worked to expand our relationship with professional tennis players,” said Martijn Van Eerde, Maui Jim’s Marketing Director, Europe. “Flavia is a terrific player and is fun to watch. Over the years, many players, coaches and line judges have discovered the benefits of our PolarizedPlus2® sunglass lens technologies to improve their views of the game.”
