TGA launches Minneapolis franchise

November 17, 2015

Minneapolis, MN – Alex Tegels always knew youth sports were going to be her career direction. With her acquisition of a TGA tennis franchise in Central Hennepin County, MN, she has a clear path to career success, as well as the opportunity to introduce thousands of youth to the sport.

“The Twin Cities area offers tremendous potential to reach new players in the sport of tennis and I am very excited for the opportunity to introduce the sport and impact youth in this community,” Tegels said. “After working at TGA’s corporate headquarters and witnessing first-hand the success of the tennis model and impact it is having on the industry, I recognized quickly that this was the career opportunity I wanted to move forward with.”

Tegels grew up in Minnesota where she started to create her path in youth sports while at the University of Minnesota through internships with the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) and The First Tee program teaching life skills.

In 2014, Tegels joined the headquarters staff at TGA managing its company owned tennis and golf franchises, as well as working with TGA franchises nationwide on player development. She also focused on developing TGA’s recreational leagues and play day programs as well as incorporating STEM education components into the TGA curriculum.

TGA (Teach, Grow, Achieve) partnered with the United States Tennis Association (USTA) in 2012 to create an activation and delivery model for tennis that includes an innovative curriculum. Together they have already activated over 35,000 youth tennis players across the country.

The success of the model is two-fold: First, introductory tennis programs are brought directly into schools and community centers and put on a level playing field with other mainstream sports by placing it on the menu of activities for elementary and middle school students. Second, following the introductory programs, TGA ushers students and their families to tennis facilities to participate in programs that include JTT, tournaments and Play Day Series. This increases access points into tennis for youth, grows the base of tennis players and presents the sport with a new avenue to cultivate elite talent for the future.

About TGA Premier Youth Tennis

TGA Premier Youth Tennis (TGA) is the leading school-based youth development model, and is in partnership with the United States Tennis Association (USTA) to create new players and increase participation in the sport of tennis. Its innovative franchise model is the only one of its kind in the tennis industry empowering entrepreneurs and tennis professionals nationwide at the grass roots level to activate new players.

TGA introduces youth to tennis at elementary and middle schools, child care centers and community organizations through a multi-level enrichment program that includes physical fitness, health and nutrition, STEM core academics, and character building before transitioning them to tennis facilities and USTA programs nationwide. The company has grown to 31 chapters across the nation serving more than 500 schools and introducing over 35,000 youth (ages 5-13) to the sport.

TGA is a national partner with the United States Tennis Association, The President’s Challenge on Physical Fitness and the National Council of Youth Sports. TGA is also a national supporter of the Afterschool Alliance and Lights on Afterschool.
