PTR names Public Facility of the Year

February 20, 2016

Hilton Head Island, SC — Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) presented its annual awards this week during the 2016 PTR International Tennis Symposium. The event, which includes more than 40 educational presentations for tennis teachers and coaches, was held February 17-20 on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Texas’ Southlake Tennis Center has been named PTR Public Facility of the Year. A PTR Proud Facility, the staff is required to be PTR certified, with 10 & Under, 11 to 17 and Adult Certifications. Several of the staff members are also certified in Performance.

The Southlake Tennis Center is a public facility owned by the city of Southlake and operated by Roxy Tennis, LLC. The facility has 19 lighted hard courts and a full service pro shop. Opened in 1999, the mission of the tennis center is to provide opportunities for play at all levels, with instruction, drills, leagues and tournaments for juniors and adults.

The facility focuses on providing excellent instruction and opportunities for play. It was one of the first facilities to provide permanent 36’ and 60’ courts, and currently has eight 36’ courts and all 19 courts lined for 10U instruction and play. The entire junior program is organized to support 10U play, with 8U Red, 10U Orange/Green instruction and match play. STC supports local Junior Team Tennis with teams at each level.

Since 2002, the tennis center has hosted the SOS Tennis Benefit every May. This three-day charity event has more than 250 players and raises between $25,000 to $30,000 annually for two local women’s shelters.

No stranger to recognition, Southlake Tennis Center has been awarded the USTA Texas QuickStart Facility of the Year, USTA Outstanding Large Public Facility of the Year, Tennis Industry Association (TIA) Public Facility of the Year, and USTA Texas Section Organization of the Year.
