Hilton Head Island, SC — Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) will present its annual awards during the 2017 PTR International Tennis Symposium. The event, which includes more than 40 educational presentations for tennis teachers and coaches, will be held February 15-18 on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Chris Leicht, of Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, has been named PTR Jim Verdieck College Coach of the Year.

This year, Leicht entered his 15th year at Wilkes University, coaching the Men’s team for 14 seasons and the Women’s team for 13. During that time, he has amassed a combined record of 408-92 (.816 winning percentage), leading the women’s squad to 10 straight Freedom Conference crowns, while the men have won nine in a row. Each of those conference titles has given the Colonels and Lady Colonels an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament. Last season, Wilkes Men finished with a school record 23 wins, while the women collected 21 victories with both winning conference titles.

During his tenure, Leicht has coached 49 All-Conference selections, including six Rookies of the Year, and seven Players of the Year. In addition, his players have received academic accolades. His teams have been named ITA All-American Academic teams 18 times and many players have been All-American academic achievers. Along the way, Leicht amassed 16 Coach of the Year awards.

Leicht, who holds an MBA from Bloomsburg University, also serves as the Director of the Recreation and Athletic Center at Wilkes University. Since 2012, Leicht has brought his teams to Hilton Head Island for PTR Spring TennisFest. While other teams head to the beach on their day off, his players have fun and give back with an on court Tennis Party for local Special Olympics athletes.
