‘Get America Moving’ month
September 13, 2017
SILVER SPRING, MD – To help get more Americans physically active, PHIT America is launching PHIT America Month. This national event will promote and encourage millions of Americans to Get Moving in May 2018, while growing sports and fitness participation. PHIT America and more than 100 corporate sponsors, sports celebrities, plus thousands of local supporters are expected to offer hundreds of ways for Americans to Get Moving, including participation in local events. PHIT America Month is open to all Americans and most of the programs offered will be free.
Jim Baugh, Founder of PHIT America, has had excellent reactions from companies and organizations to help Get America Moving during PHIT America Month.
“I traveled to three markets — Chicago, Los Angeles and New York City — to introduce this event to sponsors and others in the industry,” says Baugh. “The support has been wide and deep. We even have support from organizations and companies which have not been sponsors of PHIT America in the past. Companies in the sports and fitness industry know we just can’t sit back and wait for people to start a life of physical activity. And, they know that we must work together.”
The goal for PHIT America Month is to get active people to be more active and offer programs to get sedentary Americans moving. The entire sports and fitness industry is encouraged to participate. There are no financial requirements. During and after PHIT America Month, participants will be asked to make a small donation to PHIT America to Get A Child Moving For Life. Contributions will be used to expand the highly successful PHIT America GO! Grants program which, to date, has been able to get 150,000 kids active and moving.

PHIT America Month is tackling the real threat to the sports and fitness industry, the ‘Inactivity Pandemic.’ More and more Americans, especially children, are increasing physically inactive which decreases participation and revenue for the sports and fitness industry. In a recent global study on exercise, U.S. children are ranked 47th out of 50 countries in worldwide fitness.
Founded in January 2013, PHIT America is a non-profit campaign focused on overcoming the severe ramifications of the ‘Inactivity Pandemic’ through four strategic approaches – education, supporting school-based activity programs, a national event and advocating – which will get Americans, especially our youth, more active, fit and healthy. Companies or individuals interested in helping PHIT America fight the ‘Inactivity Pandemic’ should contact PHIT America at [email protected].
