CSE, designed by athleltes for athletes, is the first of its kind in India and was the brainchild of entrepreneur and developer Vivek Kumar, who says, “For a long time, sports in India has lacked proper infrastructure to aid its growth. With CSE we can bring about a change. It will take time but my goal was to provide a hassle-free set up for coaches, athletes and academies. If this centre can contribute to India winning more medals, I would be really very happy.”

This affiliation with CSE marks PBI’s return to India, where, from the mid-80s to mid-90s, PBI coaches trained India’s future Davis Cup and professional players in the Britannia Amritraj Tennis (BAT) Program, which developed such players as Grand Slam doubles champion Leander Paes. At one time, India’s entire Davis Cup Team was made up of former BAT players, including veteran PBI tennis director, Asif Ismail, who is a consultant for the centre and the program.

Of this new venture with the Centre for Sports Excellence, PBI founder and chairman, Peter Burwash says, “We are delighted to be associated with this state-of-the-art sports facility and to be part of their vision to offer world-class academies of excellence.”
